MARLBORO EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HOLDS ITS FIRST ANNUAL ART AUCTIONOn May 13, 2005 the Marlboro Educational Foundation held its first annual and very successful art auction. The event took place at the home of Teja Anderson and Frank Dicopoulos of Morganville. Frank, a star for the past 18 years on the daytime TV hit Guiding Light, and Teja, his wife and commercial actress, were instrumental in setting up the auction, opening their home, rearranging their furniture, securing the donation of hors d’oeuvres, quality wines, desserts and generally orchestrating a wonderfully successful evening. In addition, 12 students volunteered their time and energy making people comfortable, serving food and carrying art for the auctioneer. The artwork was supplied by Marlin Galleries of Deer Park, NY, along with a very entertaining auctioneer who kept the crowd of almost 100 people (guests included State Senator Ellen Karcher and Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Abbott) engaged in the fun and excitement of bidding for art till the end of the evening. In fact, an additional $2,000 of art sold in the final five minutes. The prices of the varying art pieces, sculpture, prints and memorabilia were between $45 to over $2,000. Italian artist Guido Borreli was on hand to sign and be photographed with buyers of his original paintings, and lithographs. Many people donated not only objects of art, but collectible items, sport memorabilia, and tickets that were used for a silent auction. Items such as tickets to the Broadway show “Spamolot,” the PGA Tournament, the Jets, plus Waterford Crystal, bottles of expensive Scotch and golf clubs made the silent auction very enticing to prospective bidders. There was something for everyone. Laughter, smiles, friendly competition, interesting banter and enthusiastic involvement in raising these much needed funds for the Foundation and the Marlboro Township schools filled the air for over four hours. It was a much needed shot in the arm for all who attended, especially given the recently failed referendum and budget this past winter and spring. The event raised over $10,000 for the Foundation. Wegmans, Gallo Wines, Mahzu, and Wine World were responsible for donating the food and wine. The Marlboro Educational Foundation is proud to call the evening a whopping success!
